apt Hiller GmbH deals with 50,000 m3 of process water a year in its water treatment plant, which also has a separate drain channel to the communal sewage plant. All waste from the treatment plant, such as residues from aluminium pickling and aluminium hydroxide, is completely recycled. In this way, synergies are used intelligently and to the benefit of the environment. The sewage plant uses the residues from aluminium pickling as a flocculant to remove phosphates (an ingredient of washing powder) and aluminium hydroxide is used for making bricks or cement.

Various environmental projects are currently in progress at apt Hiller. The PIUS project is a process-integrated programme to protect the environment by minimising the consumption of make-up water.

The use of chemicals is kept to an absolute minimum thanks to continuous analysis and process control.
